Kajeje Elise

Kajeje Elise is 49 years old and belongs to the Mushi ethnic tribe from Kabare Bakavu in the southern Kivu district of DRC. “I survived the war for several years and in 2013 I was abducted, tortured and abandoned in the bush where I was rescued by the Red Cross. This incident was the final nail in the coffin for my decision to flee my country and seek refuge in Uganda. Life in Uganda was not easy, I had no one to rely on, food and shelter were scarce luxuries. Washing clothes here and there seemed to be a lucrative job that allowed me to build capital for my jewellery making and handicrafts. In 2014, she and her friends began designing crafts for their small business. She has a vision to open a shop where her products will be available worldwide.
