Ange Bahati

My name is Ange, I was born and raised in Congo. Life in Uvira was normal and peaceful until 2015 when the problems started and our neighbourhood was one of the first to be affected by the fighting. My family was one of the targets during the conflict when my father was accused of being a traitor. I lost my parents and siblings in a single night when I endured torture and violence. I managed to escape through a shopkeeper who took me to Kampala in Uganda. My life as a refugee depended on the help of others who provided me with food and temporary shelter. I lived in Katwe at a Congolese church where I discovered I was pregnant as a result of an abuse during the war. Years later, I met a lady who designed crafts who later introduced me to a training centre where I trained for six months and later given materials to start my business. I participated in other trainings which opened up my customer base, improving my family’s life has been a big pride.
